HAL takes a java break
|
1. balticked
2. sight of fearing
3. femdroid...
4. correction tape
5. hill of cabbage
6. cup of pekoe
|
notes:
these tracks were recorded in june of 2007, before the july release of "seesaw." andy algire, my brother, and percussionist
specializing in west african music, joined me to create the first digital recordings of my newly written songs.
andy played Kpanlogo drums (silent K), which originate from Ghana, Africa, and i played acoustic guitar with vocals. the session took
place in Bayfield, Wisconsin. the circumstances that brought andy and together that day were grim. but, i believe that
as the album title of his former world-beat group states, "music bridges life and death."

turning the tossed
1. yellow bluebird 275 bpm
2. datsun camero fender bender zero
3. cableknit ii zero
|
notes:
to the left are takes of songs rejected from the final release, and one, from "yellow"s release. yellow bluebird (275 bpm) refers
to the beats per minute that were added to HAL's sheet music. no, i do not now know the average wingspeed velocity. fender bender
zero is nice, i think, but i couldn't make it fit anywhere. hence, the lyrically modified fender bender version on the disc. cableknit ii zero
is the one taken off "yellow." lyrically, it's a hard one for me to listen to. and what's harder is the parallel between these lyrics and
the final choice of lyrics. but that's another story.

all things streetwise
|
1. dying high wind v.2
2. off the one track
3. down out and about
|
notes:
if your eardrums are craving some lower frequencies after listening to "seesaw" front to back, i suggest these tracks. bass instruments
are incorporated. if you liked the telephone recording on track seven, there is a miscellaneous sample used in "down out and about." if
you can't place it, it's the windows startup sound effect. i hope those guys at microsoft have a good sense of humor, and don't take
me into court. i went out on a limb recording these tracks. rap and hiphop are not my first genre choices, so i figured
i'd come off a little inexperienced. listeners have complimented the beats, and one even said it seemed my playing ability was
improving. hmm. well, one good reason to have these rhymes in my repertoire is that i'll be prepared to bust the stuff out if it ever
comes up.
